Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, recently inspected local development projects in Nakwon County, South Hamgyong Province. During his visit, he assessed ongoing construction and outlined plans to expand regional development initiatives.

On July 5, the Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers’ Party, reported that Kim conducted an on-site inspection of local development projects in Nakwon County on July 3.

The newspaper detailed that this year’s local development policy has spurred construction of industrial facilities, healthcare centers, and multi-purpose service complexes in Nakwon County. Currently, the industrial facility is 67.5% complete, the hospital 47%, and the service complex 54% finished.

Kim began by examining the construction sites of a food processing plant, a daily necessities factory, and a clothing factory in Nakwon County’s Sepho area, evaluating the progress of each project.

He noted a marked improvement in the construction units’ expertise and technical capabilities compared to the previous year. Kim attributed the enhanced quality and speed of construction to increased mechanization and a more skilled workforce.

The leader emphasized that with the establishment of a marine aquaculture business, a cultural district for fishing villages, local industrial facilities, and greenhouse farms, the area is transforming into a thriving industrial zone.

Kim instructed local party and government officials to leverage the region’s unique characteristics in transforming Nakwon County into a model community that pioneers and leads the way in modern development.

He also visited hospital and multi-purpose service complex construction sites in Nakwon County’s town center. Kim stressed the importance of tailoring building designs to suit the specific environmental conditions of each area, whether mountainous, coastal, or plains.

Looking ahead, Kim emphasized the need to establish hospitals, multi-purpose service complexes, and local industrial facilities in 20 cities and counties annually. He underscored the importance of securing adequate material and technical resources for design and construction.

According to the newspaper, Kim expressed his intention to dramatically expand local development policies to accelerate regional transformation.

He reiterated the crucial role of the military in local construction efforts. Kim described the regional changes as a historical miracle achievable only by the North Korean military, calling for nationwide support to bolster the army’s efforts.

Additionally, Kim called for improvements in construction finishing and oversight, urban greening projects, securing potable water and wastewater treatment for residents, training medical personnel, and ensuring raw material supplies for local industries.

He urged the soldiers involved in these construction projects to recognize their role as the driving force behind North Korea’s comprehensive socialist development. Kim emphasized the importance of making the first year of implementing the 9th Party Congress decisions a landmark year for local development achievements.
