Japanese TWICE member Sana is set to make her acting debut in a feature film, 11 years after her initial debut as a K-pop idol.

Sana has recently accepted a role in the upcoming movie Nyang-i (working title). This Korean-Japanese co-production will star renowned Japanese actor Takeru Satoh, who has a strong following in Korea for his romantic roles. Takeru Satoh will play the male lead opposite Sana, promising an intriguing on-screen chemistry.

The news of Sana’s first acting project alongside Takeru Satoh has generated significant buzz in both the public and entertainment industry circles, with many eager to see her acting transformation.

Industry insiders suggest that Sana’s nuanced expressions, honed through years of music video performances, coupled with her global recognition, led to her landing a lead role in this major project despite being a newcomer to acting.

Throughout her career with TWICE, Sana has proven her star power on the global stage. Her natural ability to convey a wide range of emotions in music videos has hinted at her potential as an actress. Given Sana’s immense popularity in Japan and her pairing with Takeru Satoh, their on-screen chemistry and Sana’s unexpected charms are expected to be the film’s main draw and a key point of interest for viewers.

Nyang-i will be helmed by director Hyukchan Kwon, with Korean companies KOKS and ANPIO co-producing alongside Japan’s JACON. The production will be managed by the Korean team, with an all-Korean crew set to begin filming in Japan later this year.

As TWICE members branch out into individual pursuits like acting and solo projects, Sana’s silver screen debut is anticipated to further boost the group’s brand value.

Meanwhile, TWICE continues to enjoy strong support from their global fanbase. The group is currently on their THIS IS FOR world tour and will conclude with a grand finale at Seoul’s KSPO Dome from July 10 to 12.
