Samsung Electronics will establish the “RX (Robotics eXperience) Business Promotion Office” directly under the CEO as it moves to accelerate its robotics business. The company aims to make robotics a key pillar of future growth while advancing its vision of an “autonomous factory” powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that can operate factories around the clock.

Samsung Electronics announced on July 21 that it will establish the RX organization directly under the head of its Device eXperience (DX) Division. Roh Tae-moon, CEO and head of the DX Division, will directly lead the RX Business Promotion Office to strengthen execution capabilities and drive business initiatives.

The RX Business Promotion Office will operate as an integrated organization covering the full commercialization process, including the establishment of mid- to long-term robotics business strategies, development of core hardware, AI and software technologies, design and product planning.

Through the establishment of the new organization, Samsung Electronics plans to consolidate its accumulated robotics capabilities and technological competitiveness across the company. It also aims to create new business opportunities by building an integrated system covering everything from long-term robotics strategy development and core technology advancement to commercialization.

The RX Business Promotion Office will use Samsung’s Seoul R&D Campus in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, as its main hub, bringing together robotics-related personnel and providing an environment for collaboration. The company plans to continue investing in expanding work infrastructure, including offices and laboratories needed for robot development and commercialization.

To strengthen the use of data, a key competitive advantage in robotics, Samsung will establish a data factory at its Gumi manufacturing site. The company plans to create a foundation for rapid deployment of robots in real-world environments and advance robot intelligence and control capabilities through close collaboration with research teams at the Seoul R&D Campus.

Samsung also plans to establish global research centers in the United States, China and Japan, where robotics technologies are advancing rapidly. Through the use of local specialized technologies and ecosystems, as well as active talent recruitment, the company will continue strengthening its technological competitiveness.

Lee Dong-geon, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Corporate Planning Team, will serve as head of the Robotics Strategy Team and lead the development of Samsung’s mid- to long-term robotics business roadmap. Lee previously led robotics strategy initiatives at Hyundai Motor Group, including strategic direction related to Boston Dynamics.

In addition, Professor Hyun-jin Kim of Seoul National University, recognized as a global authority in intelligent autonomous robot systems and robot control, and Professor Eui-gyeom Kim of Ajou University, who has achieved world-class research results in robotic hands and manipulation, are expected to join the RX Business Promotion Office.

Professor Hyun-jin Kim leads the Intelligent Control Systems Laboratory (ICSL) at Seoul National University and has accumulated globally recognized research achievements across intelligent autonomous systems, including autonomous robots, unmanned aerial vehicles, robot control, multi-robot collaboration and safety-assured control.

Professor Eui-gyeom Kim is a leading researcher in the development of high-performance humanoid robotic hands inspired by human hands, multi-degree-of-freedom grippers and precision tactile sensors.

Samsung Electronics plans to continue recruiting top experts in various fields to build robotics commercialization capabilities from a long-term perspective.

Through the establishment of the RX Business Promotion Office, Samsung Electronics aims to accelerate technology development based on faster decision-making and execution. The company plans to respond more quickly to market changes and create differentiated robot experiences and business opportunities.
