Psy’s viral hit “Gangnam Style” has reached a staggering 6 billion views on YouTube.
P Nation, Psy’s agency, announced that the music video, which debuted on YouTube on July 15, 2012, crossed the 6 billion view threshold on the afternoon of July 17, nearly 14 years after its initial release. This milestone marks a first for any K-pop music video.
The video, which hit 5 billion views on December 30, 2023, added another billion views in just over 2 years and 7 months, demonstrating its lasting impact on global pop culture.
“Gangnam Style” is widely credited with introducing K-pop to mainstream international audiences. The track spent an impressive seven consecutive weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and made history as the first YouTube video to surpass 1 billion views in December 2012.
Notably, the song is considered a watershed moment for K-pop, igniting worldwide interest in the genre at a time when it was largely unknown in the global pop landscape.
Psy commemorated the 6 billion views achievement during his Psy Summer Swag 2026 concert in Gwacheon on July 18. In a nod to the iconic video, he sported the signature sky-blue jacket and black bow tie from the “Gangnam Style” clip, sharing the celebratory moment with his fans.
The singer is currently on his Psy Summer Swag tour, which will cover nine cities with a total of 14 shows. The tour includes stops in Wonju, Suwon, Gwangju, and Busan, before wrapping up in Daejeon on August 22 and 23.
Psy, who debuted in 2001, had already established himself as a major force in Korean entertainment with hits like “Bird,” “Celebrity,” “It’s Art,” “Passionate Goodbye,” “What Would Have Been?,” and “Paradise.” However, it was the 2012 release of “Gangnam Style” that catapulted him to international stardom, making him the first Asian artist to top the UK Official Singles Chart and sparking a global phenomenon.
