Samsung Electronics invested $12.1 billion in capital expenditures during the second quarter of 2026, a $4.0 billion increase from the previous quarter, as it expands manufacturing capacity to meet growing long-term demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking during the company’s second-quarter earnings conference call on Thursday, Chief Financial Officer Park Soon-cheol said Samsung allocated $11.1 billion to its Device Solutions (DS) semiconductor division, $505 million to its display business, and $505 million to other business segments.

“For memory, capital spending increased from the previous quarter as infrastructure investments, including the new Pyeongtaek fabrication plant, expanded to prepare for sustained long-term AI demand,” Park said.

He added that Samsung is continuing to invest in advanced research and development to maintain and strengthen its technology leadership.

In the foundry business, investment accelerated as preparations ramped up for the timely launch of Samsung’s Taylor fabrication plant in Texas. Display investment also rose modestly from the previous quarter to enhance the company’s existing 8.6-generation production line.
