LG Electronics is set to unveil a groundbreaking gaming monitor that boasts an impressive 1000 Hz refresh rate alongside Full High Definition (HD) (1920×1080) resolution.

The company announced on Wednesday that it will launch the new LG UltraGear model (25G590B) in South Korea. For context, the refresh rate refers to how many times a screen updates per second. A 1000 Hz rate means the display can show up to 1000 frames in a single second, resulting in incredibly smooth visuals.

The LG UltraGear 25G590B is a world first, achieving a native 1000 Hz refresh rate at Full HD resolution without resorting to artificial interpolation techniques.

LG Electronics touts this new product as a premium gaming monitor that caters to players who refuse to compromise on either speed or image quality. Until now, gamers seeking ultra-high refresh rates often had to settle for lower resolutions, as existing dual-mode 1000 Hz monitors would typically reduce screen size or resolution when operating at maximum refresh rates.

This latest offering combines blazing-fast refresh rates with crystal-clear visuals. It particularly shines in fast-paced first-person shooter (FPS) games, allowing players to track enemy movements with unprecedented smoothness while maintaining sharp details in characters, backgrounds, and objects.

The monitor also features AI-powered enhancements to boost immersion and a space-saving design. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Custom Picture Quality function automatically optimizes image settings based on on-screen content. Meanwhile, the AI Sound feature delivers precise directional audio, enhancing the gaming experience by accurately conveying sounds like footsteps when using headphones.

Recognizing that many gamers need ample desk space for mouse and keyboard movements, LG has shrunk the monitor’s stand base by up to 49% compared to the previous model (25G550B).

The new monitor incorporates an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, known for its wide viewing angles and accurate, vibrant color reproduction. It also features Motion Blur Reduction Pro (MBR) technology, which minimizes screen ghosting and makes it easier to track fast-moving objects.

The LG UltraGear 25G590B is priced at 1.49 million KRW (approximately 1,075 USD) on LG Electronics’ online brand shop.

The gaming monitor market has evolved beyond mere spec comparisons, now focusing on user preferences and real-world gaming environments. As global esports continue to gain popularity, demand for high-performance, premium gaming equipment is surging.

Market research firm IDC projects that the global gaming monitor market will grow at an average annual rate of 6.4% until 2030. During this period, the South Korean market is expected to expand even faster, at about 15% annually. LG UltraGear currently leads the South Korean gaming monitor market, holding the top spot in market share as of the first quarter of 2026.

Lee Chung-hwan, Vice President of LG Electronics’ Display Business Unit, stated that this new product delivers on the key elements gamers crave: unparalleled refresh rates and superior image quality. It believes it will set a new benchmark for gaming displays.
