Kakao, SK Telecom, and KT are launching development of the government’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) for All service. They plan to unveil a free, unlimited-use universal chatbot service akin to ChatGPT for all citizens by year’s end.
On Friday, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) held a meeting at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. There, they shared development plans from the three consortia selected for the AI for All project and discussed collaboration strategies.
The ministry outlined its service launch preparations, proposing measures to support the year-end rollout. These include integrating public AI agents, ensuring data privacy and security, and fostering public-private partnerships to attract users.
The Kakao consortium announced plans to offer a universal chatbot based on domestic AI models like Kakao’s Kanana and LG’s Exaone through familiar channels such as KakaoTalk and phone calls. Their goal is to create an AI platform where users can complete tasks from information searches to payments in a single conversation.
SK Telecom’s consortium aims to provide AI services that go beyond simple Q&A, handling everything from authentication to payments.
KT’s consortium introduced Eum, a service connecting real-time search-based universal AI agents with specialized AI services across various sectors, allowing citizens to experience AI benefits in daily life.
Deputy Prime Minister and Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon stated that the ultimate goal of AI for All is to seamlessly integrate new domestic AI services into citizens’ daily lives. It aims to provide convenience for the public while creating new opportunities for businesses in the AI market. Let’s work together to launch these services by year-end.
AI for All is a national project to develop AI services based on proprietary models. Selected companies must use domestic AI models to provide universal chatbot services, public AI agents, and specialized AI agents. The universal chatbot service, set to launch this year, will be free and unlimited for all citizens. The government plans a beta release in late September, with full service rollout in December.
