Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shattered the 11-year-old North American box office record, finally claiming the top spot.
Sony Pictures reported on Thursday that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed 936.77 million USD in cumulative box office revenue.
This figure edges out the 936.66 million USD earned by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, marking the first change in the all-time North American box office record in over a decade.
Globally, the film has also crossed the 2.4 billion USD mark, surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water to become the third highest-grossing film worldwide.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows Peter Parker, who, forgotten by everyone after the events of No Way Home, faces a mysterious enemy who remembers his identity. As he grapples with uncontrollable powers from a DNA mutation, Parker must confront new threats to protect his loved ones in this action-packed blockbuster.
The film is also dominating in South Korea. Since its July 29 release, it hit milestones rapidly: 1 million viewers in two days, 2 million in four, 3 million in five, 4 million in seven, 5 million in 11, 6 million in 13, 7 million in 19, and 8 million in 26 days. As of Wednesday, the total South Korean audience reached 8,952,757, setting a new record for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise.
