CL, former member of the K-pop group 2NE1, is set to join forces with producer Teddy.

News1 reported on Wednesday that CL is in talks to sign an exclusive contract with The Black Label. The singer has recently wrapped up filming a music video for her upcoming release, fueling anticipation for her comeback.

Following her departure from YG Entertainment in 2019, CL established her own agency, Very Cherry, to manage her career. This new partnership marks her first agency change in approximately seven years.

CL burst onto the scene in 2009 as part of the YG Entertainment girl group 2NE1. As the group’s leader and main rapper, she garnered widespread acclaim with hit tracks like “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” “I Am the Best,” and “Come Back Home.” She later ventured into a solo career, making waves internationally when her 2016 single “Lifted” entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

After parting ways with YG Entertainment in November 2019, CL struck out on her own. She founded Very Cherry the following year and continued to make music, releasing her debut full-length album ALPHA in 2021, which showcased her unique artistic vision as a solo performer.

CL has also participated in 2NE1 reunion activities. In 2022, she joined Park Bom, Sandara Park, and Gong Minzy for a surprise performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, marking the group’s first full lineup appearance in nearly seven years. The quartet followed this up with a full-fledged reunion concert in 2025, collaborating with YG Entertainment to celebrate their 15th anniversary.

The Black Label, CL’s prospective new home, is a music label founded in 2016 by Teddy, a former YG Entertainment producer. Teddy has a long history with CL, having produced many of 2NE1’s biggest hits including “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” and “I Am the Best.” This potential reunion between CL and Teddy at The Black Label has sparked considerable interest in the industry.

The Black Label’s roster already boasts impressive talent, including BIGBANG’s Taeyang, BLACKPINK’s Rosé, Jeon Somi, MEOVV, and All Day Project. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly anticipating the fresh musical directions CL might explore in collaboration with Teddy and The Black Label team.
