Nelly Korda, the world No. 1 in women’s golf from the United States, has won four consecutive tournaments on the LPGA Tour.
On the 7th, at the LPGA Tour T-Mobile Match Play held at Shadow Creek (Par 72) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Korda secured victory by finishing four holes ahead of Leona Maguire from Ireland.
With this triumph, Korda claimed her 12th career victory on the tour, taking home a prize of $300,000 (approximately 400 million won).
Notably, Korda has displayed unparalleled dominance by winning all four tournaments she has participated in recently.
Having won the Drive On Championship in January, she continued her winning streak by clinching victories at the Seri Pak Championship and the Ford Championship last month. With her latest triumph, she has accumulated an impressive streak of four consecutive wins and three consecutive weekly victories.
This marks the first time a player has won four consecutive tournaments on the LPGA Tour since the ‘legendary’ Lorena Ochoa from Mexico achieved it 16 years ago, in 2008.
Korda is now set to challenge for her fifth consecutive victory at the Chevron Championship, the first major tournament of the LPGA Tour season, in two weeks. The feat of winning five straight tournaments has only been achieved twice before, by Nancy Lopez (USA) in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam (Sweden) between 2004 and 2005.
Korda maintained her consistent lead throughout the final match after comfortably advancing through the quarterfinals and semifinals the previous day.
Taking the lead with a par on the second hole (par 4), Korda widened the gap to four holes by securing three consecutive birdies on the fifth (par 3), sixth (par 4), and seventh holes (par 5).
Although momentarily challenged to three holes behind after a par on the ninth hole (par 4), the gap returned to four holes after Maguire’s par on the tenth hole (par 4).
Korda extended her lead to five holes with a birdie on the twelfth hole (par 4), ultimately securing victory as Maguire parred the fifteenth hole (par 4).
Maguire, aiming for her third career victory, was thwarted by Korda’s exceptional performance, postponing her triumph to another tournament.
Meanwhile, Sei Young Kim (31, Solaire) and Anna Nordqvist (28, Mediheal) concluded the tournament tied for third place after being eliminated in the semifinals the previous day.
