Captain of the French national team and Real Madrid Forward Kylian Mbappe has once again had terrible luck at the UEFA Euro 2024. After a lackluster performance in UEFA Euro 2020, Mbappe had to take a break due to a significant injury. On June 18, France won 1-0 against Austria in the first round of Group D at the Euro 2024, held at the Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Despite winning their first tournament match, France suffered the misfortune of having Mbappe, their captain, injured in the first round.

Mbappe broke his nose forty minutes into the second half of the match when his face collided with Kevin Danso’s shoulder during an aerial ball play. After losing a lot of blood, Mbappe was replaced by Olivier Giroud, ending the game early.

Immediately after being substituted, Mbappe left the stadium for the hospital to get his injury examined. Initially, it was expected that Mbappe would need surgery on his nose, but it was decided that he would continue playing in the Euro tournament without surgery. For now, he will miss the remaining two group stage games and take some rest with plans to return to the field wearing a protective mask.

From Mbappe’s perspective, his bad luck with the Euro continues.

In the FIFA World Cup, Mbappe achieved successful results even after an injury, winning one championship (2018), being runner-up, and being the top scorer (both in 2022).

However, the UEFA Euro matches are a different story. He’s been unlucky.

During the UEFA Euro 2020, Mbappe first stepped into the match but was silent in all four games before France was eliminated in round 16.

He was particularly criticized for missing a penalty as the fifth kicker in the penalty shootout against Switzerland in the 16th round.

Mbappe, who is captaining his second Euro, completed his dream move to Real Madrid ahead of the tournament and quickly entered the competition. However, he was unlucky to suffer a significant injury in the first match.
