North Korea has renovated the Tumen River Station, located on its border with Russia.

The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Thursday that the Tumen River Station has been reconstructed and officially opened, with the completion ceremony taking place on-site on Wednesday.

The newspaper stated that the Tumen River Station has been uniquely constructed to fulfill its role as a border gateway, ensuring a high level of convenience for passengers and contributing to the modernization of the railway system.

The station now features a waiting hall, an information desk, a refreshment area, and a souvenir shop. The surrounding area has been landscaped with thousands of trees and flowering shrubs of over ten different varieties.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Korean State Railways Kuk Myong Ho urged railway officials and transportation personnel to further strengthen the material and technical foundation of the railway to ensure safe and punctual train operations. He emphasized that employees at Tumen River Station should take responsibility for managing the station and tracks while providing excellent guidance services for travelers, aiming to create innovations in both freight and passenger transport.

Tumen River Station, located in the Tumen River District of Rason City, serves as a border station with Russia. From this station, passengers can cross the Tumen River via a railway bridge to reach the Russian station of Khasan.

The recent modernization of Tumen River Station appears to be linked to the strengthening of North Korea-Russia relations, aimed at increasing passenger and logistics transport between the two countries.

On April 30, North Korea and Russia held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an automobile bridge. Currently, only the railway bridge allows for train travel between Tumen River Station and Khasan. Once the automobile bridge is completed, passenger and cargo movement between North Korea and Russia is expected to expand significantly.
