Apple is scaling back the number of software features it plans to unveil at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25), opting instead to focus on enhancing the quality of its offerings, according to a report on Wednesday from Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, as cited by tech news outlet 9to5Mac. This strategic shift appears to be a response to the criticism Apple faced last year when it delayed the release of iPhone operating system (iOS) 18, as well as improvements to its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and Siri upgrades.

Gurman reports that Apple intends to prioritize announcing only those features that have a high likelihood of being released in the fall. This approach is designed to avoid a repeat of last year’s post-iOS 18 announcement issues, where several promised features were either delayed or never materialized. Consequently, WWDC25 may feature fewer announcements than in previous years, with the spotlight primarily on major software updates, such as iOS 16 and macOS 16.

In contrast to recent years, which saw headline-grabbing announcements like the Vision Pro in 2023 and a significant focus on Apple’s AI advancements last year, the WWDC25 is shaping up to be more subdued. The emphasis will be squarely on refining software features, although there’s speculation about the potential unveiling of a new HomePod. However, no concrete details have been confirmed. Industry observers are keenly watching to see how Apple’s strategy of fewer announcements but higher software quality will play out in the competitive tech landscape.
