Google is rolling out a voice conversation feature in its AI mode, allowing users to engage in interactive voice searches through the Google app. The AI responds directly to verbal queries, creating a more dynamic search experience. TechCrunch reported on Wednesday that Google introduced this voice capability just weeks after launching AI mode across the United States.

The AI mode appears as a new tab in Google Search, offering a chatbot-style interface that summarizes user questions and provides links to relevant websites.

This feature is particularly beneficial for users who are multitasking or on the move. For example, while packing for a trip, one could ask, “How do I prevent wrinkles in a linen dress?” and follow up with, “What if it wrinkles anyway?” During the conversation, relevant links appear on-screen for further exploration. Thanks to the Search Live feature running in the background, users can continue their dialogue even while using other apps.

Liza Ma, Google Search’s Director of Product Management, explained that the AI mode’s Search Live feature uses the Gemini custom model to deliver reliable responses. She explained that they’ve expanded the scope of web content displayed through query fan-out technology, enhancing the breadth of exploration. Google plans to incorporate real-time camera-based search capabilities into the AI mode in future updates.
