The General Atomics MQ-9A Reaper, an unmanned combat aerial vehicle dubbed the Sky Assassin, is slated for rotational deployment to the Korean Peninsula in the latter half of this year.

Military sources reveal that the MQ-9A Reaper is expected to be stationed at Kunsan Air Base for roughly three months beginning in September. Given that U.S. and South Korean air forces have previously conducted live-fire exercises with this drone, it’s anticipated that this deployment will further enhance joint operational capabilities.

While the MQ-9A Reaper has participated in combined exercises on the Korean Peninsula before, this marks its first extended rotational deployment lasting three months. Some analysts speculate that this move could be linked to the strategic realignment of U.S. forces in South Korea, an initiative being pursued by the Donald Trump administration.

The U.S. 7th Air Force, however, has not confirmed specific details about a permanent Reaper deployment. They stated that it stands ready to provide forces in a Fight Tonight posture to maintain regional security and will remain focused on its commitment to uphold and strengthen the U.S.-South Korea alliance.
