The Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s official Workers’ Party newspaper, reported on Wednesday that General Secretary Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent phone call.

The newspaper stated that Kim and Putin had a warm, comradely conversation on Tuesday.

Kim expressed gratitude to Putin for his warm congratulations to the North Korean people on the 80th anniversary of their national liberation (known as Liberation Day).

Kim stated that the entire nation will reverently remember the heroic feats of the Red Army soldiers from 80 years ago as a true example of internationalism. He noted that they will pay solemn tribute to the Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Korea’s liberation. He assured that North Korea would fully support all actions taken by the Russian leadership going forward.

According to the newspaper, Putin acknowledged the support provided by North Korea during the liberation of the Kursk region, praising the bravery, heroism, and spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by the Korean People’s Army.

The report emphasized that both leaders appreciated the deepening cooperation in all fields, as outlined in the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed last June. They also confirmed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration.

The article noted that they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest but did not disclose specific details.

Earlier, the Moscow Kremlin announced on Tuesday that Putin had shared information about the forthcoming summit between the U.S. and Russia during his call with Kim. However, Rodong Sinmun did not mention this in its report.
