On Tuesday, North Korea fully endorsed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision for a new international order ahead of Kim Jong Un’s visit to China. Pyongyang stated that cooperation between North Korea and China would be further strengthened.

Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Myong Ho posted a statement on the Foreign Ministry’s website, declaring that the cooperation between the two nations to uphold international justice and fairness will be further enhanced.

Pak noted that, despite this year marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) (on October 24), global geopolitical instability is increasing. He asserted that the U.S. and Western powers are openly committing acts of oppression that infringe upon the sovereignty and interests of numerous countries around the world in order to secure their hegemonic status and dominance.

He added that it is crucial to actively promote the establishment of a fair and equitable international order to prevent the coercion and overreach of the U.S. and the West, thereby ensuring global peace and achieving sustainable development and cooperation.

Pak expressed support for the Global Governance Initiative mentioned by President Xi in his keynote address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit on August 31. This initiative is positioned as a new alternative to the current U.S.-centered international order.

During his speech, Xi stated that all countries, regardless of size, strength, or wealth, should participate equally in global governance, make decisions, and benefit. He emphasized the need to promote the democratization of international relations while enhancing the representation and voice of developing countries.

In response, Pak emphasized that in today’s world—where U.S. and Western hegemony and unilateral actions are rampant, leading to tragic events—the Global Governance Initiative holds significant positive meaning in upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

He added that North Korea and China have long supported each other from a shared stance against domination, subjugation, hegemony, and coercion. Pak concluded by stating that cooperation between the two countries to uphold international justice and fairness will be further strengthened in the future.
