 The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, reported on Friday that Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party, stated during his meeting with Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the previous day that this visit is deepening the bonds of friendship between the two parties and the peoples of the two countries and making the 80th anniversary of our party’s founding even more meaningful / Rodong Sinmun

The party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Friday that Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, held talks with Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, during his visit for the 80th anniversary celebration of the North Korean party’s founding.

According to the newspaper, Kim stated during his meeting with Trong the previous day that this visit strengthens the bonds of friendship between the two parties and peoples, making the 80th anniversary of our party even more significant.

The report noted that when Kim expressed his pleasure at the remarkable achievements of the Vietnamese government and people in building a prosperous and strong nation, Trong responded that he was deeply impressed by North Korea’s extraordinary accomplishments in its struggle for comprehensive national development through self-reliance.

Furthermore, the newspaper reported that the talks included candid exchanges on issues related to actively promoting socialist construction efforts in both countries, as well as on expanding cooperation between the two parties and peoples in line with contemporary demands.

Following the meeting, the two leaders also held a banquet, which was described as taking place in a comradely and friendly atmosphere.

North Korea and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1950, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which have been declared as the Year of Friendship. This visit by Vietnam’s top leader to North Korea is the first since 2007, when then-General Secretary of the Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh, visited the country.
