Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral relations between their nations.

The North Korean state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Thursday that President Putin had sent a New Year’s greeting to Kim.

In the message, Putin expressed gratitude for what he described as the heroic participation of North Korean soldiers in liberating Russia’s Kursk region from occupying forces. He also praised the subsequent work carried out by North Korean engineers on Russian soil, saying these efforts clearly confirmed the unbreakable friendship and combat solidarity between Russia and North Korea.

Putin highlighted the importance of joint efforts to implement the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting that it has significantly expanded productive bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economics, culture, and other fields.

The Russian leader also referred to recent high-level contacts and the trend toward closer cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow, saying such collaboration aligns with the fundamental interests of both peoples and will contribute to building what he described as a just multipolar world order.

Putin concluded his message by wishing Kim and his family good health and prosperity, as well as happiness and prosperity for all citizens of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
