North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the construction site of the Sinuiju Greenhouse Complex Farm on January 2, just ahead of its completion. He commended the patriotism and dedication of the young workers and military personnel involved in the project.
The Workers’ Party’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on January 3 that Kim had visited the construction site the previous day. He congratulated the youth vanguard and soldier-builders who had welcomed the New Year while striving to honor the 9th Party Congress with their impressive labor achievements.
In his congratulatory address, Kim praised the young builders, saying that the young workers have risen to this major construction site, prioritized by the party and state, and transformed a disaster-stricken area into an ideal agricultural city in just over 500 days.
He further lauded the young workers and soldiers, stating that the choice to embrace hardship and self-discipline over comfort and ease during your youth has fostered a robust will and passionate spirit capable of overcoming challenges, innovating, and demonstrating patriotism. These days of struggle will remain an invaluable lifelong asset that money cannot buy.
Kim expressed confidence in the younger generation’s development, declaring that there are no young people in the world like its Korean youth. This is truly a joyful and satisfying reality for the party, which bears responsibility for the nation’s future.
He continued that soon, this large-scale greenhouse farm will be presented as a gift of loyalty to the glorious party congress. Kim emphasized that on the day of completion, it will all take commemorative photos at this transformed site. The 9th Party Congress will welcome the valiant youth at the April 25 House of Culture, where comrades took their bold steps forward.
During his visit, Kim met with and encouraged workers who had made significant contributions to the project. He also toured the Sinuiju Greenhouse Complex Farm area. The newspaper reported that construction and assembly of greenhouse facilities have been completed, with final touches on landscaping, including tree planting, currently underway.
Kim outlined key issues for successful landscaping of the greenhouse complex and detailed a series of tasks for future farm operations and management. He also issued directives regarding the completion ceremony.
North Korea has been promoting the development of a comprehensive farm area in Sinuiju, covering 450 hectares (about 1,112 acres), claiming it will be the largest of its kind. This area is approximately 1.5 times the size of Yeouido in Seoul. The farm’s construction is part of the recovery efforts following flood damage in the Sinuiju region in 2024.
Since attending the groundbreaking ceremony in February last year, Kim has visited the site multiple times, including on August 1, September 18, October 17, and November 26. His New Year visit to encourage the young workers and soldiers demonstrates his ongoing interest in the project.
