Hoengseong County’s premium rice brand Eosajinmi has made its debut in the U.S. East Coast market, with the first shipment departing in 2026.

On January 10, the Hoengseong Eosajin Agricultural Cooperative held a ceremonial send-off for the Hoengseong Eosajinmi Rice U.S. Export at their headquarters. The event was attended by over 20 local dignitaries, including the Hoengseong County Mayor, the Chair and members of the County Council, and representatives from agricultural cooperatives.

This inaugural shipment, totaling 19.7 tons (about 43,431 lbs), is destined for consumers in Maryland. Eosajinmi, cultivated in the pristine environment of Hoengseong County, has gained international acclaim for its superior taste and quality, having passed rigorous selection processes.

The rice’s reputation was further solidified when it clinched the Grand Prize for best rice brand at the 11th National Rice Day event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs last year. This accolade firmly established Eosajinmi as a premier rice variety representing South Korea.

The recognition in South Korea has bolstered confidence among international buyers, serving as a catalyst for export expansion.

Hoengseong rice has been steadily gaining ground in international markets over the past seven years. The county has successfully broadened its distribution channels beyond the U.S. to include Canada, Hong Kong, and other global markets. Notably, exports to the U.S. market alone reached an impressive 98.8 tons in 2024, indicating robust growth.

Jeong Soon-gil, Director of Agricultural Policy, emphasized that the ongoing export of Eosajinmi serves as a crucial indicator of Hoengseong’s agricultural excellence on the world stage. It is committed to providing comprehensive administrative support to enhance farmers’ incomes through export market diversification and stringent quality control measures.
