LG Electronics is bolstering its brand presence in the North American commercial laundry market by creating innovative laundry experience spaces on U.S. college campuses.

On Tuesday, LG Electronics unveiled its LG Laundry Lounge at the University of Tennessee’s dormitory in Knoxville. This cutting-edge space is designed as an interactive community hub where students can transform their laundry wait times into opportunities for relaxation and social engagement.

The state-of-the-art LG Laundry Lounge is equipped with 16 commercial washing machines and 24 dryers, complemented by LG organic light-emitting diode (OLED) televisions (TVs), monitors, and air purifiers. Students can unwind or catch up on content while waiting for their laundry cycles to complete. This facility is strategically located in Fred D. Brown Hall, the university’s largest dormitory, home to roughly 700 students.

The University of Tennessee, a flagship institution in the state where LG Electronics operates its U.S. production hub, received generous donations of products and equipment from LG to establish this space. This initiative serves a dual purpose: contributing to the local community while enhancing LG’s product visibility and brand recognition on a campus that sees approximately 40,000 enrolled students and over 60,000 annual visitors.

The commercial washing machines in the LG Laundry Lounge feature LG’s proprietary Inverter DD (Direct Drive) motor technology. This innovative design directly connects the drum to the motor, minimizing vibration and noise while boosting durability and energy efficiency. This ensures reliable performance even in high-traffic, heavy-use environments.

LG Electronics has also prioritized user convenience. The company has launched a dedicated app called Laundry Crew, enabling students to check washer and dryer availability in real-time from their dorms or classrooms. The app’s laundry completion notification feature helps students manage their time more efficiently and reduces unnecessary waiting.

LG Electronics is ramping up its efforts to capture a larger share of the North American commercial laundry market. The company recently inked a supply agreement with CSC ServiceWorks, North America’s leading laundry solutions provider. This follows a previous deal with Wash, the second-largest player in the market, further solidifying LG’s position in the business-to-business (B2B) laundry sector.

The company’s technological prowess and service capabilities are key differentiators. LG Electronics pioneered the application of low-temperature dehumidification inverter heat pumps in commercial washer-dryer combos, simultaneously improving drying performance and energy efficiency. The company also offers a comprehensive management solution featuring remote control, error notifications, and smart diagnostics, backed by a network of over 1,900 service centers across North America.

Kwak Do-young, Vice President of LG Electronics North America, emphasized that leveraging its industry-leading technology and strong brand reputation, it is committed to continually enhancing LG’s unique customer experience in the commercial laundry market.
