SK Oceanplant has officially inked a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the U.S. Navy, securing the right to participate in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) projects for key naval vessels, including U.S. combat ships, the company announced on Wednesday.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in SK Oceanplant’s global ship MRO expansion strategy, which has been underway since last year.

The deal was finalized after the company successfully completed a port security assessment conducted by the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) last month.

The MSRA is an official certification granted by the U.S. Navy to domestic and allied shipyards, authorizing certified facilities to directly perform MRO operations on major vessels, including frontline warships.

SK Oceanplant stated that this agreement serves as international recognition of its specialized capabilities in naval defense and maritime maintenance.

Kang Young Kyu, CEO of SK Oceanplant, said that the MSRA goes beyond mere certification and represents a strategic pivot for the company’s entry into the global defense network. He added that SK Oceanplant aims to accelerate its expansion into the global MRO market by broadening cooperation with the U.S. Navy and other key allied naval forces.
