LG Electronics announced on Monday that it will join the 6G Alliance, spearheaded by Qualcomm Incorporated, at MWC 26, the world’s largest mobile communication exhibition held in Barcelona, Spain. The company aims to accelerate innovation in next-generation telematics by integrating wireless communication into vehicles to enable real-time information exchange.

The alliance brings together over 30 global companies from sectors including connected mobility, telecommunications, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and mobile technology. These firms plan to harness AI-powered 6G technology to explore a range of devices, data services, and air-ground traffic management systems.

Qualcomm Incorporated unveiled a roadmap to deploy commercial 6G systems by 2029, alongside the alliance’s launch. LG Electronics will participate as a key partner in the connected mobility sector, focusing on advancing its future technological capabilities in Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and AI-Driven Vehicles (AIDVs).

Key collaboration areas include: AI-driven infotainment and user experience innovation, expanding seamless digital experiences across vehicles, mobile devices, homes, and the cloud, and implementing high-performance computing and real-time data processing in SDV environments.

Through partnerships with various companies, LG Electronics will pursue standard development and system validation, paving the way for an open ecosystem. Leveraging its position as the world’s leading telematics provider, the company plans to accelerate the development of automotive technologies centered on AI and communication as the industry shifts towards SDV and AIDV paradigms.

LG Electronics’ VS Division debuted at MWC, showcasing cutting-edge smart telematics solutions. This move reflects the growing importance of vehicle communication technology in driving mobility competitiveness. The company aims to strengthen strategic collaborations with automakers and telecom firms seeking next-gen communication solutions to enhance autonomous driving and infotainment capabilities.

LG Electronics is making rapid strides in the connected car sector, as evidenced by its LG αWare platform. This ecosystem includes vehicle entertainment solutions like PlayWare, Meta software offering AR/MR and AI-driven user experiences, and VisionWare, an advanced ADAS solution utilizing AI algorithms and camera sensors.

Moreover, LG Electronics pioneered the integration of the Automotive webOS Content Platform (ACP) in commercial electric vehicles. ACP extends the diverse user experiences of LG’s proprietary smart TV platform, webOS, into the automotive realm, offering premium content, including LG Channels.

Lee Sang Yong, Vice President and Head of the VS Research Institute at LG Electronics, said the collaboration will accelerate the development of a broad range of solutions that combine AI and communication technologies. He added that the company is committed to expanding a wider technological ecosystem and transforming in-vehicle experiences across telematics, infotainment, and security.
