On Tuesday, former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min lambasted President Lee Jae Myung for expressing regret over North Korean drone incursions, asserting that he lacks the qualifications to serve as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Yoo took to Facebook, questioning the appropriateness of the president’s apology for sending drones when North Korea repeatedly provokes South Korea with drone and balloon incursions without offering a single apology.

He further argued that a president who cannot even demand an apology from North Korea for the sinking of the Cheonan, which claimed the lives of South Korean soldiers, has no right to apologize for drone operations.

Yoo referenced President Lee’s statement on West Sea Defense Day on March 27, where he responded to Cheonan victims’ families’ requests for a North Korean apology by saying, Do you think North Korea will apologize just because we ask? Yoo noted the irony that President Lee now apologizes to North Korea over the drone incident, prompting Kim Jong Un to have Kim Yo-jong praise him as a frank and magnanimous person.

He concluded by stating that if the president felt pleased by Kim Yo-jong’s praise, then the country is not in a normal state.
