HealthHow Angeliq and Other Treatments Are Transforming Menopausal Care in 2026

Daewon Pharmaceutical hosted a two-day academic symposium on June 6-7, focusing on the clinical applications of its menopausal hormone therapy Angeliq and other key products, the company announced on Thursday.

The event was chaired by Professor Hwang Kyung-joo, the current president of the Korean Menopause Society, and Professor Kim Seong-hoon, the incoming president, who led discussions on cutting-edge developments in menopause treatment.

The first day featured Professor Jang Hye-jin, who discussed the implications of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decision to remove black box warnings concerning breast cancer and cognitive function risks associated with menopausal hormone therapy. She emphasized the importance of early intervention. Following this, Professor Kim Seul-ki presented case studies on the use of Pelubi CR, an anti-inflammatory analgesic, in obstetrics and gynecology.

On day two, Professor Lee In-ha highlighted the clinical benefits of drospirenone, the progestin component in Angeliq. He explained that Angeliq, which combines low-dose estrogen with drospirenone, could be an effective treatment option for menopausal women suffering from estrogen deficiency.

Additionally, Professor Choi Hyuk-soon shared recent findings on Escoten, a gastritis treatment, and its applications in obstetrics and gynecology.

A spokesperson for Daewon Pharmaceutical stated that this symposium provided a platform to exchange clinical experiences and discuss the latest treatment strategies for our key products, including Angeliq. It’s committed to expanding tailored treatment options to improve women’s quality of life and will continue to foster academic collaboration.

In other news, Daewon Pharmaceutical reported consolidated sales of 158.1 billion KRW (approximately 103.9 million USD) and an operating profit of 4.4 billion KRW (about 2.9 million USD) for the first quarter of this year. While sales remained stable, operating profit saw a 53.4% decrease compared to the same period last year, attributed to the expansion of their health supplement business and increased research and development (R&D) investments.

The pharmaceutical sector faced challenges in the first quarter due to a decline in respiratory disease cases, including influenza. However, Daewon Pharmaceutical navigated these changes by diversifying its business portfolio.
