Global sensation Jennie has taken the music world by storm with her latest single, showcasing her unparalleled influence on international charts.

OA Entertainment, Jennie’s agency, reports that her new single “Less than a Lover” was released simultaneously across various global music platforms and her official YouTube channel on July 24 at 1:00 p.m. (Korean time). The track quickly soared to the top of numerous global charts, demonstrating its impressive commercial appeal.

The accompanying music video for “Less than a Lover” not only claimed the #1 spot on YouTube’s Trending Worldwide chart but also dominated the trending charts in both South Korea and the United States. This feat further cements Jennie’s position as a global phenomenon and a standout artist in the industry.

The single has also made significant waves in the Chinese music market. “Less than a Lover” swept the top positions on China’s three major music platforms: QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music, and KuGou Music. Notably, QQ Music awarded the single a ‘Gold’ certification, making it the only track by a K-pop female solo artist released this year to achieve such recognition. This underscores Jennie’s strong local fanbase and widespread popularity in China.

On the domestic front, the song secured the #2 spot on Melon’s Hot 100 chart as of July 30, successfully breaking into the upper echelons of South Korean music charts. Internationally, it has performed exceptionally well on Apple Music’s Top Songs chart, ranking highly in several countries including Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. The single has also dominated iTunes Top Songs charts in 27 countries and regions, including the Philippines, Indonesia, and Brazil, setting a new record for the most #1 hits among K-pop solo artist songs released this year.

Jennie played an integral role in writing and composing “Less than a Lover,” drawing inspiration from the fleeting days of summer. The track artfully captures the excitement and lingering emotions of a relationship that teeters between friendship and romance, encapsulated in its evocative title. This alternative pop song features lo-fi guitar riffs and vintage electric keyboard sounds, painting a dreamy, romantic picture reminiscent of a midsummer night.

Jennie first rose to fame as a member of the globally acclaimed girl group BLACKPINK, which debuted in 2016. The group has released numerous chart-topping hits including “Whistle,” “Playing with Fire,” “As If It’s Your Last,” “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Forever Young,” “Lovesick Girls,” “Shut Down,” and “Pink Venom,” garnering worldwide acclaim.

In 2018, Jennie embarked on her solo career, further solidifying her reputation with singles such as “SOLO,” “You and Me,” “Mantra,” “Like Jennie,” and “Gen.” Her star continues to rise as she prepares to perform at major international festivals, including Lollapalooza Chicago and Summer Sonic 2026 in Japan.
