Christopher Nolan’s epic Odyssey has stormed to the top of box office charts in 69 countries worldwide, including North America.

Universal Pictures reported on Monday that Odyssey clinched the number one spot in major markets such as the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, and India, among others.

According to Box Office Mojo, Odyssey raked in a staggering 264.06 million USD globally in its opening weekend. This marks a career-best global debut for Christopher Nolan, shattering the previous record set by The Dark Knight Rises and outperforming his other blockbusters like Oppenheimer, Tenet, Dunkirk, and Interstellar.

The film has garnered widespread acclaim from international critics. THE WRAP declared that you can’t say Hollywood doesn’t make films like this anymore because no one has ever made a film quite like this. Time Out warned viewers to prepare for motion sickness during this overwhelming cinematic experience that hits like a storm. The BBC praised its immersion, noting that it feels like it’s on the journey together on a ship, while The Hollywood Reporter hailed it as a colossal spectacle that dominates the IMAX screen.

Odyssey has also won over audiences and critics alike, boasting an impressive 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 97% audience score.

The film follows the epic journey of Odysseus (Matt Damon), the hero who led Greece to victory in the decade-long Trojan War, as he struggles to return home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) in the king’s absence. Odyssey is set to hit theaters in Korea on August 5.
