General Xavier Brunson, Commander of U.S. Forces Korea and United Nations (UN) Command, stated on Monday, the anniversary of the Korean War armistice: While the armistice is not a peace treaty, it has provided a framework that has contributed to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula for the past 73 years.

Brunson shared this message on the social media platform X that morning, noting that today marks the 73rd anniversary of the signing of the Korean War armistice.

He paid tribute to the 22 nations that fought under the UN flag, stating that the veterans remain a living bridge, connecting the battlefields of yesterday to the peace it safeguards today.

Brunson emphasized that their legacy reminds us that upholding the armistice requires unwavering commitment, constant vigilance, and robust readiness. There is no substitute for being prepared.

The Korean War, which erupted on June 25, 1950, was halted with the signing of the armistice agreement on July 27, 1953, by the commanders of the UN Command, the Korean People’s Army, and the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army. South Korea designates this date as UN Forces Participation Day and observes it as a national holiday, while North Korea refers to it as Victory Day.
