The San Diego Padres have extended their winning streak to five games after defeating the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball (MLB) action.
On Thursday, the Padres secured a 3-1 victory over the Rockies at Petco Park in San Diego, California.
With this win, San Diego has now won five consecutive games since their matchup against the Miami Marlins on July 25. Their record stands at 55-53, putting them just 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies (57-52) for the final National League Wild Card spot.
Song Seong-mun, who remained on the bench, did not see any playing time and maintained his season batting average of .212.
The Padres broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jackson Merrill delivered a clutch hit with the bases loaded and no outs.
Luis Rengifo then grounded out to first base, allowing Manny Machado to score from third. With one out and runners on second and third, Gavin Sheets hit a sacrifice fly to right field, extending San Diego’s lead to 3-0.
The Padres’ pitching staff, which featured six different hurlers, managed to limit Colorado’s offense to just one run.
Kyle Hart, formerly of the NC Dinos in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League, started for San Diego and set the tone with a strong outing. He pitched 2⅔ innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out three without surrendering a run.
Griffin Canning, who followed Hart, earned the win by tossing three scoreless innings in relief.
