Big Bang members and singer G-Dragon’s online trolls have been fined.
On Tuesday, G-Dragon’s agency, Galaxy Corporation, issued a statement: It’s actively pursuing legal action to protect G-Dragon’s reputation and rights. This includes addressing various online illegal activities such as defamation, spreading false information, insults, malicious slander, and violations of personal rights and privacy.
The agency disclosed in February that they had initiated a large-scale lawsuit against over 100 online trolls.
Galaxy Corporation provided an update, stating that several cases are currently under investigation by law enforcement and the courts. Some suspects have had their criminal charges confirmed, resulting in referrals to prosecutors or criminal trials. The court has issued summary orders with fines ranging from 2 million KRW (about 1,400 USD) to 7 million KRW (about 4,900 USD) for multiple defendants. Prosecutors are also seeking summary fine orders in separate cases, indicating that substantial legal proceedings are underway.
They added that these outcomes prove that even those using anonymous accounts to post malicious content can be traced and face criminal penalties. Based on the collected evidence, it will ensure accountability in ongoing cases and swiftly take legal action against any newly identified illegal activities.
The agency outlined their intention to pursue further legal action against rights infringements, including: creating and spreading unverified information and malicious rumors; insulting or slandering artists; illegally obtaining and sharing artists’ personal information; posting sexually harassing or objectifying content; creating and distributing manipulated media; and systematically producing or amplifying malicious posts.
They emphasized that both the original creators of malicious content and those who repeatedly share or amplify it are committing illegal acts subject to legal consequences. Even if posts are deleted or accounts are made private, it will continue legal procedures based on the secured evidence.
The statement concluded that it will take all possible legal actions against newly identified infringements. It maintains a zero-tolerance policy and will respond strictly, without leniency or settlement, to illegal acts causing serious harm to the artist.
