U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Michelle Park Steel paid tribute to Korean War veterans during a visit to the Seoul National Cemetery on Monday.
Ambassador Steel shared images on X (formerly Twitter) of her solemn visit, stating that it was a privilege to join U.S. Forces Korea Commander Xavier Brunson in laying a wreath at the National Cemetery, honoring the valor and sacrifice of those who served in the Korean War.
She emphasized that their noble sacrifice remains the cornerstone of the enduring Republic of Korea (ROK)-U.S. alliance.

Steel arrived on July 30 and issued her inaugural statement. The following day, she participated in a flag-raising ceremony with U.S. Marines, met with embassy personnel to mark the commencement of her tenure, and visited the statue of King Sejong the Great. Her weekend activities included engaging with local merchants at Namdaemun Market and attending a service at Yeongnak Church.
On August 4, Steel kicked off her official diplomatic duties with a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Foreign Minister Park Jin. She also met with National Security Advisor Kim Sung-han that day, followed by talks with Commander Brunson on August 5.
The day after her meeting with Commander Brunson, Steel took to X on August 6, sharing that yesterday, Commander Brunson and she had a productive discussion about the shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. She added that they’re committed to working closely to bolster the combined defense readiness and strengthen the robust U.S.-ROK alliance.
