Vernon (28, Choi Han-sol), a dual citizen of South Korea and the United States and a member of the K-pop group SEVENTEEN, is set to fulfill his mandatory military service.

Vernon will begin his service on August 20. He will report to a training camp for basic military instruction before transitioning to alternative service as a social service agent.

Born to a Korean father and an American mother, Vernon’s decision to serve in the South Korean military has drawn considerable attention due to his dual citizenship status.

The artist’s agency has requested that fans refrain from visiting the training camp or his future work sites. They expressed gratitude for the continued support from SEVENTEEN’s fanbase, known as Carats, emphasizing that this support will help Vernon diligently complete his service and return in good health.

Vernon made his debut with SEVENTEEN in May 2015. The group has since released a string of hit songs, including “Adore U,” “Mansae,” “Pretty U,” “Very Nice,” “Don’t Wanna Cry,” “Clap,” “Oh My!,” “Left & Right,” “Rock with You,” “Hot,” and “_WORLD,” captivating both fans and the general public.

SEVENTEEN is currently navigating a period of military service for its members. Wonwoo is serving as a social service agent, while Hoshi and Woozi are active-duty soldiers in the army. Dokyeom is scheduled to begin his army service on September 8. Jeonghan became the group’s first member to complete his service after being discharged in June. The group’s leader, S.Coups, received a military exemption due to a ligament injury. Joshua, Jun, and The8 are exempt from service as foreign nationals.
