The property damage in the metropolitan area of South Korea caused by North Korea’s trash balloons amounts to around $19,000.

According to data revealed by Representative Yang Bu Nam of the Democratic Party, a member of the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee, the property damage that occurred from May 28 to June 12 ranged from $13,870 to $14,600 in Seoul and $4,780 in Gyeonggi Province, totaling between $18,650 and $19,380.

The number of property damage reports was 10 in Seoul and 4 in Gyeonggi Province.

The largest damage was reported from a logistics center in Yeongdeungpo-gu Seoul, where the vehicle’s roof was damaged, amounting to $11,380.

Other reported damages included damage to residential roofs and windows, broken vehicle windows, and scorching of the front wheels of vehicles. North Korea sent over 2,000 waste-filled balloons toward its southern counterpart seven times from May 28 to June 27, in retaliation against defector groups in South Korea sending propaganda leaflets to the North.
