Philip S. Goldberg, U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, underscored the critical importance of solidifying trilateral ties between the U.S., South Korea, and Japan amid significant security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

In a video address at the Seoul Diplomatic Forum 2024 on Thursday, held at the National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul, Goldberg highlighted the substantial advancements in trilateral security cooperation among the three nations, particularly in response to North Korea’s provocations and potential nuclear threats. He noted that their militaries are enhancing joint capabilities through integrated training exercises.

Goldberg also recalled the key meeting a year ago at Camp David, where President Yoon Suk Yeol, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and President Joe Biden launched a new era of trilateral partnership.

He emphasized the need for a unified approach to tackle today’s geopolitical challenges, stressing that maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific, advancing trade, and achieving development objectives all hinge on robust mutual cooperation. Goldberg affirmed, “We are stronger together and must work collectively to navigate this new era.”
