On Friday, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of Korea announced that effective 8 a.m. that day, it had temporarily blocked DeepSeek access through the internet network. This measure will remain in place until the platform’s safety regarding information security and personal data protection can be verified.
Government agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, have already taken steps to restrict access to DeepSeek due to security concerns. Domestic tech companies, including Kakao, also advise caution against using DeepSeek.
The police and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) have similarly blocked access to DeepSeek, citing risks of personal data breaches.
