A man in his twenties who secretly hid a camera in his bag to illegally film women wearing short skirts has been sentenced to prison.

On May 17, Judge Jeon Hee Suk of the Gwangju District Court’s Criminal 9th Single Bench announced the sentencing of a 25-year-old man. The man, charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (specifically for filming and distributing illegal content), received an 8-month prison sentence and 2 years of probation. The court also ordered the confiscation of the mobile phone used to film the illegal videos and ordered the defendant to attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.

The man was indicted on charges of illegally filming the body parts of victims wearing short skirts 10 times from October 2022 to March 2023 in various places such as stores and bus stops in Gwangju.

Upon investigation, it was found that he committed the crime by putting his mobile phone in the side pocket of his backpack and filming with the camera through the net. A victim coincidentally discovered this and reported it to the police. Numerous illegally filmed videos were found on the man’s mobile phone.

The man was also indicted for downloading and storing 30 spy cam photos on his mobile phone from January 2022 to May 2023.

Jeon said, “The defendant filmed the victims’ bodies against their will and possessed illegally filmed videos or reproductions. Such acts are repeated sexual crimes targeting unspecified victims, and their illegality is serious.”

Jeon continued, “Considering the period of the crime, amount, and the method, the nature of the crime is not acceptable. The victim who witnessed the defendant’s crime and reported it appears to have felt considerable fear and sexual humiliation due to this crime. However, considering that each filmed material does not appear to have been distributed to a third party, the sentence is determined.”
