Lotus Korea announced on Wednesday that it will introduce South Korea’s first-ever vehicle replacement program for electric vehicles (EVs) among imported car brands.

Under this new program, if a fire unexpectedly breaks out while a Lotus EV is parked or charging, the customer will receive a brand-new vehicle of the same model. This marks the first such program in South Korea’s imported car market and among all global markets where Lotus operates.

Unlike other manufacturers, which may take several months to investigate the cause before replacing a vehicle, Lotus Korea has pledged to provide customers with an immediate loaner vehicle and a new replacement car identical to the damaged one. Lotus will fully cover all costs related to the production and import of the new car.

The program applies to the brand’s two hydroelectric models currently sold in South Korea—the Eletre SUV and the Emeya sedan. It also covers all existing Lotus EVs in the country. Furthermore, the program extends to new buyers and current owners as long as their vehicle is within the warranty period.

A Lotus Korea representative stated, “We have prepared this bold EV replacement program to demonstrate the excellence and reliability of Lotus electric vehicles to more people.” They added that the initiative aims to revitalize the EV market, which recent concerns over EV fires have shaken.
