The Korea-U.S. AI (Artificial Intelligence) Working Group has officially launched.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and ICT, on the 12th, the Korea-U.S. AI Working Group held its first meeting via video conference the previous day. This meeting was agreed upon during the Korea-U.S. Next-Generation Core/Emerging Technology Dialogue in December last year.

On the Korean side, Uhm Yul, the AI Policy Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT, Han Min Young, the Advisory Director of the Climate Environment Science Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials from the Presidential Economic Security Office attended. On the U.S. side, Seth Center, the Acting Special Representative for Core and Emerging Technology of the State Department, and officials from the White House and the Department of Commerce were in attendance.

The Korean and U.S. sides exchanged opinions on the AI Seoul Summit and the AI Global Forum, scheduled for next month. They agreed to regularly discuss international standards for AI, research cooperation, policy interoperability, and efforts for international AI governance.

The government expressed its expectation that this working group will “Strengthen the Korea-U.S. technology alliance, which was agreed upon at the Korea-U.S. summit in April last year.”
