Porsche announced on the 11th that it will solidify its supply of low-carbon aluminum with Norwegian aluminum manufacturer Norsk Hydro. To achieve this, they plan to extensively utilize low-carbon aluminum that emits less than 4 kg of carbon dioxide per kilogram in the production process of sports cars.

In electric vehicles (EVs), lightweight materials such as aluminum play a crucial role. Approximately 30% of the Taycan’s total weight consists of aluminum.

The two companies are focusing on increasing the use of secondary aluminum, which contains a higher proportion of recycled materials, while also working to reduce total carbon dioxide emissions. Porsche has ambitious plans to actively utilize aluminum, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

Barbara Frenkel, a member of Porsche’s procurement board, stated, “Collaboration with Norsk Hydro is an important milestone for Porsche in decarbonizing across the entire value chain.”
