Samsung Electronics announced on Friday that its operating profit for the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 129.9% year-on-year to approximately $4.45 billion. During the same period, sales rose 11.8% to about $51.99 billion.

The core semiconductor (DS, Device Solutions) division reported an operating profit of around $1.99 billion, falling short of market expectations of over $2.06 billion.

This performance is attributed to sluggish demand for mobile phones and PCs and price declines in legacy DRAM due to increased supply from Chinese memory semiconductor companies. Additionally, delays in supplying high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to major customers amid surging demand driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) impacted results.

For 2024, Samsung Electronics achieved total sales of approximately $206.43 billion, a 16.2% increase from the previous year. Operating profit for the same period surged by 398.3% to about $22.46 billion. The DS division’s annual sales and operating profit were approximately $76.25 billion and $10.37 billion, respectively.
