LG CNS announced on Wednesday that it is partnering with S-OIL to implement an AI-powered smart factory project.

The partnership was formalized during a signing ceremony at LG CNS’s Magok headquarters in Seoul’s Gangseo district. LG CNS President Hyun Shin Kyun and S-OIL’s Chief Operating Officer Park Bong Soo attended the ceremony.

Under this agreement, the two companies will deploy AI video analysis technology and AI CCTV systems to monitor flare stacks. Flare stacks are critical for managing flammable gas emissions in refineries and petrochemical plants.

This advanced technology analyzes smoke color and flame conditions in gas combustion stacks in real time. The system automatically adjusts steam valves to enhance safety measures if any abnormalities are detected.

The collaboration also aims to improve the efficiency of process safety management (PSM) by incorporating generative AI and voice recognition technologies. One key initiative is developing an “AI mock interview” feature to assist employees in preparing for safety awareness discussions.

LG CNS plans to leverage its proprietary solutions, including the enterprise-grade generative AI platform DAP GenAI Platform and the AI and big data analytics platform DAP MLDL, to support the implementation of the AX (AI Transformation) Platform at S-OIL’s Ulsan facility.

LG CNS President Hyun expressed confidence that their generative AI technology would accelerate the AX initiative at S-OIL’s plant. S-OIL COO Park Bong Soo emphasized their commitment to working closely with LG CNS to realize the vision of a Digital Refinery.
