Samsung SDI’s ultra-high-output cylindrical battery and technology, which compensated for the weaknesses of existing LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, were recognized as innovative products at the InterBattery Awards.

Samsung SDI announced on Monday that its “50A Ultra-High Output Cylindrical Battery” and “LFP+ Platform Material/Electrode Technology” have been selected as the winners of the InterBattery Awards 2025.

The Korea Battery Industry Association selected products and technologies that scored high in technical excellence, innovation, marketability, and contribution to industrial advancement ahead of InterBattery 2025, which will be held at COEX in Seoul for three days from March 5.

Samsung SDI achieved the second consecutive win, following last year’s award for their energy storage system (ESS) product and the Samsung Battery Box (SBB).

The LFP+ Platform Material/Electrode Technology offers a cutting-edge solution to enhance the energy density and cell resistance of LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.

This innovation boosts energy density by approximately 10% compared to conventional LFP batteries while maintaining comparable cell safety evaluation results. It effectively addresses the weaknesses of LFP batteries, including their low energy density and limited driving range, while improving fast-charging capabilities.

The 50A Ultra-High Output Cylindrical Battery features the industry’s largest output. Its table design expands the current path by processing electrode ends into multiple tabs. This design will be released in the second quarter of this year.

When used in power tools, which are its main uses, this battery can deliver up to 40% higher output than batteries of similar capacity. Its advanced fast-charging technology enables 80% charging in just 15 minutes, and incorporating new materials extends the battery’s lifespan.

Samsung SDI plans to introduce its battery technology, including its award-winning products, safety-enhanced prismatic batteries, and next-generation all-solid-state batteries, at the upcoming InterBattery 2025 event.
