A man with U.S. citizenship was apprehended by police after sneaking into a department store through an employee entrance before business hours to steal luxury clothing and other items.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on Monday that they had arrested a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of theft and attempted theft the previous day (March 22).
Mr. A is accused of entering a department store in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, around 9:10 a.m. (Korean time) on March 22, stealing luxury clothing and accessories worth approximately 15 million KRW (about 9,990 USD).
Investigators determined that Mr. A entered the store through the employee entrance before opening hours and spent about 40 minutes wandering around the premises committing his crimes.
In one store, he was caught by an employee while attempting to leave with stolen goods, forcing him to flee and leaving that particular theft attempt incomplete.
Later that day, at approximately 12:40 p.m. (Korean time), Mr. A returned to the same department store, where he was apprehended by police responding to a report from security personnel.
Law enforcement officials plan to thoroughly investigate the exact circumstances of the incident before deciding whether to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A.
