CJ ENM announced on Friday its plans to enhance content distribution competitiveness and accelerate global expansion in the latter half of the year.

The company aims to strengthen content volume deals and individual sales in established markets like Japan, Southeast Asia, and North America, while exploring partnerships in emerging markets such as India, the Middle East, and South America.

Moving beyond simple licensing, CJ ENM will focus on tailored distribution strategies, including simultaneous worldwide releases, local prime-time scheduling, and creating dedicated time slots.

Last month, the company inked a strategic content partnership with Amazon Prime Video India, targeting the world’s largest growth potential market. With a population of about 1.4 billion and a rapidly expanding over-the-top (OTT) sector, India has become a key focus for global media giants.

Tving, CJ ENM’s streaming platform, has been gaining momentum in content distribution. Following partnerships with HBO Max and Disney+ last year, it has expanded into 18 countries, including Japan and 17 Asia-Pacific nations.

The upcoming slate features adaptations from webtoons, web novels, and films, alongside new seasons of successful franchises.

Notable webtoon and web novel adaptations include tvN’s Gift starring Kim Woo Bin and Tving’s original series Lottery First Prize Also Have to Work with Lee Joon Hyuk.

Film adaptations include tvN’s Spooky in Love featuring Park Eun Bin, Yang Se Jong, and Ong Seong Wu.

The lineup also boasts proven intellectual property (IP)-based variety shows such as tvN’s Fresh off the Sea 3, The Village Barber 2, Iron Girls 3, Mnet’s Street World Fighter: Director’s War, and Earth Arcade, a spin-off of Space Rice Cake House.

Theatrical releases for the second half include Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, Paradise Lost, and Ode to My Father 2.

Tving plans to expand its subscriber base through original and anchor entertainment programs, maximizing ad revenue during the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason and year-end period.

To counter the recent slowdown in television (TV) advertising, the company will enhance tailored integrated campaigns for advertisers and expand artificial intelligence (AI)-based products to secure additional ad revenue.

The music division will diversify its artist roster and leverage flagship content IP to accelerate global growth momentum in the latter half of the year.

The commerce sector will launch creator-driven initiatives, connecting content and fandom to purchases as a new growth engine.

This includes expanding short-form and live commerce leveraging creators’ content production skills and fan bases, as well as developing co-created products to establish a creator commerce model linking content production to product planning and sales.

CJ ENM stated that the content-driven strength expands through IP and broadens into everyday experiences. It’s building a sustainable growth structure through efficient content production, diversified artist portfolios, and platform expansion via Tving, Mnet Plus, and commerce.

In Q2, CJ ENM reported revenue of 1.2033 trillion KRW (about 847 million USD), down 8.3% year-over-year. However, operating profit rose 16.9% to 33.4 billion KRW (about 23.5 million USD) for the same period.
