LX Pantos has completed a major air transport operation, bringing 11.2 million fresh eggs from the United States and Thailand into South Korea using chartered flights.
The company announced on September 9 that two Boeing 747 charter cargo planes, each loaded with 150 tons of fresh eggs, successfully landed at Incheon International Airport after departing from Los Angeles International Airport. The unloading and delivery of the cargo were completed without incident.
Since mid-June, LX Pantos has orchestrated a total of 10 charter flights to transport fresh eggs from farms in the U.S. and Thailand. The operation has moved a staggering 11.2 million eggs, weighing approximately 800 tons.
This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to stabilize the domestic egg supply. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, working through the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), has been ramping up imports of fresh eggs to counter supply uncertainties caused by avian influenza (AI) outbreaks.
As of September 1, the retail price for a carton of 30 premium eggs reached 7,228 KRW (approximately 5.41 USD), marking a 9.8% increase compared to the average price for the same period in previous years.
To ensure the eggs arrived in peak condition, LX Pantos implemented stringent measures. They minimized transit times from farm to market and maintained optimal temperatures throughout the journey. Special packaging and loading techniques were also employed to prevent breakage.
LX Pantos’s expertise in handling perishable cargo is underscored by its International Air Transport Association (IATA) certifications. The company holds both the CEIV Fresh certification for quality in fresh cargo air transport and the CEIV Pharma certification for pharmaceutical air transport.
