In pre-market trading last Friday, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix plummeted 6-7% following the sharp decline in artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor stocks on U.S. markets.

As of 8:09 a.m. (KST) on Monday, Samsung Electronics was trading at 202,000 KRW (about 152 USD), down 5.26% from the previous session.

SK Hynix saw a 7.00% drop, trading at 1,183,000 KRW (about 888 USD).

This downturn is largely attributed to renewed funding concerns surrounding CoreWeave, which sparked a sell-off in AI chip stocks during Friday’s U.S. trading session.

Last week, CoreWeave’s corporate bond yields and credit default swap (CDS) premiums spiked dramatically, triggering a near 12% stock price plunge. This reignited broader concerns about financing across the AI infrastructure sector.

Other tech giants also felt the heat, with Samsung Electro-Mechanics down 9.26%, Samsung SDI falling 5.47%, SK Square dropping 7.02%, and LS Electric declining 7.25%.

Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, commented that investors are closely watching for any potential rebound in CoreWeave’s stock price and whether the surge in its corporate bond yields and CDS premiums will stabilize. While there are clear differences in financial structures between CoreWeave and major hyperscalers, it remains to be seen whether this credit instability will lead to a broader pullback in AI investments.
