Gumi City Mayor Kim Jang-ho has called for local companies to be involved in at least 30% of the construction work for the Samsung SDS Gumi AI Data Center, a colossal 3 trillion KRW (about 2.25 billion USD) investment project.

At the recent Samsung C&T & Local Construction Companies Collaboration Day, Mayor Kim emphasized the data center’s pivotal role in driving Gumi’s future economic growth.

He stressed the importance of aligning major investments with local business growth and regional economic vitality. Kim urged local firms to boost their competitiveness to meet the rigorous quality and safety standards set by large corporations, viewing this as a springboard for future opportunities.

The event brought together representatives from 30 local construction firms and seven Samsung C&T officials from various departments, including outsourcing, procurement support, and construction safety research.

A Samsung C&T site representative reported that civil engineering work is underway, with local companies already handling pile construction and temporary water supply. He pledged to actively seek ways to increase local participation in upcoming project phases.

Gumi City officials will closely monitor the registration process of participating companies and plan to visit Samsung C&T headquarters next month to discuss further collaboration.
