Samsung Electronics’ mobile payment service Samsung Wallet Money & Points has surpassed 3 million subscribers in just one year since its launch. To mark this milestone, Samsung has introduced a points tier system and added international payment capabilities.
According to Samsung Electronics on Thursday, Samsung Wallet Money & Points is a rechargeable payment service integrated into the Samsung Wallet app. Users can top up their balance, make payments, and earn points.
Launched in October last year, the service reached 1 million subscribers within two months and has now hit the 3 million mark in just one year.
Samsung attributes this rapid growth to several key features: users can accumulate points without monthly spending requirements or earning limits, the service is accepted at all domestic merchants, and points earned from purchases can be used immediately like cash for subsequent transactions without restrictions.
Starting October 20, Samsung began rolling out app updates to introduce the points tier system and international payment features.
The points tier system categorizes customers into four levels based on annual point accumulation: Solar (highest), Lunar, Sky (basic), and Young.
Customers in the Young tier (ages 14-29) can enjoy an additional 3% points earning benefit on purchases. Solar and Lunar tier members receive perks such as discount coupons for gifting and extra instant win lottery tickets when paying with their balance.
Additionally, the Samsung Wallet app will feature 14 mini-games in the Benefits Tab, allowing users to earn points through gameplay.
Samsung will launch a one-year anniversary celebration event on October 27. First-time users of Samsung Wallet Money will receive 5,000 points instantly, and there will be a chance to win prizes including the Galaxy Z Fold 8 through a lottery.
An International Payment Reward Event will also run, offering customers an additional 2.5% in points when they make payments abroad using Samsung Wallet Money.
Young tier customers can earn 2,000 points by making a single payment with either the Toss Youth Card or Kakao Bank Mini Card through Samsung Wallet.
Chae Won-cheol, Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) Division Digital Wallet Team, stated that the goal with Samsung Wallet is to add tangible value to the customers’ daily lives. It will continue to expand the Samsung Wallet ecosystem across various touchpoints both domestically and internationally, consistently enhancing the benefits that customers can experience in their everyday activities.
