Samsung Electronics has begun installing equipment at its foundry facility in Taylor, Texas, and is exploring options to expand production capacity, including the construction of additional factories.
During a conference call on Thursday to discuss third-quarter results, Kang Seok-jae, Vice President of Samsung’s Foundry Business Division, stated that it has started clean room operations and equipment installation at the Taylor fab. It has also dispatched specialized personnel from headquarters for line setup, which is progressing as scheduled.
Kang added that they’re evaluating plans to expand our production capacity, including the construction of additional fabs, to meet growing global customer demand.
Samsung explained that the ramp-up of its advanced process production capacity has not kept pace with actual demand growth. In response, the company plans to increase investments in new factories both in the U.S. and South Korea to address the rapidly increasing demand for 2-nanometer artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) chips.
Kang emphasized that it will strengthen our integrated ecosystem by not only expanding the logic process capacity but also establishing advanced packaging production capabilities in a timely manner, connecting ultra-fine processes to packaging.
